Post-doctoral position in remote sensing of cold regions – Institut des Géosciences de l’Environnement (France)
The objective of this post-doctoral position is to explore two cold environments, Northern latitude frozen lakes and the
Antarctic melt zone, using microwave remote sensing observations. The activity takes place in the framework of two
projects funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) to improve understanding of the passive and active sensors
operating at microwave frequencies and proposed new satellite products to estimate melt and ice depth. The general
approach is quantitative and physically-based. It uses microwave radiative transfer modeling to understand the signal
recorded by satellites from the surfaces of interest (melting snow, frozen lakes) in order to inform the development of
new retrieval algorithms or better interpret existing ones.
